MUSCATINE, Iowa — Three banks in eastern Iowa are planning to merge this summer so they'll be able to offer customers services at eight locations.
The owner of Central State Bank of Muscatine, Freedom Security Bank of Coralville and Kalona, and West Chester Savings Bank of Washington announced the merger this week.
Central Bancshares Inc. said the merger should go smoothly because all the banks use the same computer systems.
Central State Bank President Bob Howard said that customers shouldn't notice many changes initially but that the banks will work behind the scenes to allow customers to visit any of the branches.
And the banks won't immediately change their names. The merger includes branches in Washington, Kalona, Coralville, Wilton and Muscatine.
