Benefit is Saturday for heart-kidney transplant patient

A benefit for Greg Rathe, who received a heart and kidney transplant this spring, will take place Saturday evening near Weeping Water, Neb.

Funds raised will go toward medical and living expenses for Rathe.

His brother, Mark, said Rathe is doing well. He was released from the Nebraska Medical Center in late May, two weeks after the transplant.

The benefit, at the Cass County Fairgrounds near Weeping Water, will include a barbecue meal, beer garden, figure-eight car race and band.

Donations also can be sent to First Nebraska Bank, P.O. Box 186, Weeping Water, NE 68463. Checks should be made to the Greg Rathe Benefit Fund.

The benefit will start at 5 p.m. and the figure-eight racing at 7:30 p.m. Attendance at the races will cost $10, while eating the barbecue will come with a free-will donation.
