Creighton basketball fans planning on spending New Year's Eve at the CenturyLink Center might want to have a plan B in hand.
There's a chance the Bluejays will be playing their first new Big East game against Marquette that night. But for now, nothing is official.
Fox Sports touched off a flurry of excitement Thursday morning when it released the following information in a press release announcing that it had hired Bill Raftery to serve as the lead analyst on basketball broadcasts of the new league:

“Fox Sports 1 is slated to televise over 100 Big East men's regular-season basketball games this coming season. The non-conference schedule begins Friday, Nov. 8, the likely date of the first (Gus) Johnson-Raftery assignment. The Big East Conference schedule begins with a five-game, all-teams-featured New Year's Eve marathon on Dec. 31 (St. John's at Xavier, noon ET; Seton Hall at Providence, 2:30 p.m. ET; DePaul at Georgetown, 5 p.m. ET; Villanova at Butler, 7:30 p.m. ET; and Marquette at Creighton, 10 p.m. ET).”
Asked to comment about the matchup, Creighton coach Greg McDermott said, “That is not official, so I don't have a comment.”
Later Thursday, Fox revised its release to read:
“Fox Sports 1 is slated to televise over 100 Big East men's regular-season basketball games this coming season. The non-conference schedule begins Friday, Nov. 8, the likely date of the first Johnson-Raftery assignment.”
Attempts to reach Fox officials were unsuccessful.
McDermott and other Creighton officials have said it's likely the Bluejays' schedule won't be released until late August and early September. Several schools in the new league share their venues with professional teams, and must wait until those pro teams clear dates before the collegiate teams can set schedules.
