A months-long stalemate over a vacant Bellevue City Council seat continued Tuesday night as the current members voted down two proposals to fill the spot.
On one side are the mayor and two council members, who want businessman Mike Hall in the Ward 1 seat.
The mayor nominated Hall, but three other council members voted against his nomination. Those three, led by council President Don Preister, then proposed holding a special election to fill the vacancy.
Each side rejected the other's proposal at Tuesday's meeting, as they had at the last meeting two weeks earlier.
Although the Bellevue city attorney has issued an opinion on how the selection process should work, Preister said Tuesday he has asked the Nebraska Secretary of State's Office to rule on the law governing the process.
