By Sarah Baker Hansen
World-Herald Staff Writer

The Midtown Crossing location of Brix will serve Sunday brunch beginning this weekend. The meal, only at the midtown site, will be served 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Both locations of Brix will have a free wine sampling Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The tasting will include 15 wines.

At the Village Pointe Brix, the Templeton Rye owner, Keith Kerkhoff, will host a free sampling and bottle-signing event from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Lincoln bakery joins 'Wars'

A Lincoln bakery is the latest in Nebraska to be on the Food Network's “Cupcake Wars.”

Le Cupcake, owned by Yvonne Loy, will be on the show May 12. Loy is a retired teacher who opened the shop at 5563 S. 48th St. in December 2011.

Three Omaha bakeries — Cuppycakes Couture Cupcakes, Bliss Bakery and Jones Bros. Cupcakes — also have been on the show.

Cupcake Wars is a reality show in which dueling bakers vie to make the best cakes through three elimination challenges. The winner takes home $10,000.

Last chance for Lenten specials

Today is the last day to try the Lenten specials at Cantina Laredo and Black Oak Grill in Midtown Crossing.

Cantina Laredo is serving crab enchiladas topped with smoky chile sauce and roasted poblano creamed corn. The restaurant also has a daily fish special.

Black Oak Grill is serving sole today. The fish is stuffed with goat cheese, spinach and red peppers and is served on a bed of rice. The restaurant also has trout, salmon and other fish on its menu.

For the non-Lenten or post-Lenten crowd, Black Oak Grill is serving a Reuben sandwich special through the end of the month. The sandwich is made with the chef's homemade thousand island dressing, corned beef, sauerkraut and swiss cheese on marble rye bread and served with savory fries.

Both restaurants are in Midtown Crossing, off 30th and Dodge Streets.

Daily special at Sullivan's

Sullivan's Steakhouse is launching a daily three-course, fixed-price menu for $39.

The menu includes a starter, soup or salad and an entree. Selections include shrimp cocktail, filet medallions, and scampi-style shrimp with garlic mashed potatoes and bordelaise sauce, New York strip crusted with porcini and shallots, and angel hair pasta topped with wild mushroom ragout.

The special is available nightly for dinner. Sullivan's is at 222 S. 15th St.
