The Omaha school board plans to discuss requiring students to maintain a minimum grade-point average to participate in extracurricular activities, including varsity sports teams.
Board member Justin Wayne introduced the idea at a board committee meeting Monday morning. More Omaha Public Schools athletes should be going to college to play sports, he said, but they don't have the grades.
Board members agreed the board should talk about his idea. Board President Marian Fey also asked Wayne to partner with a couple of other board members and write a board policy about his idea.
The board committee could talk about Wayne's proposal in a couple of weeks.
